Why Rare Coins Are A Better Investment
Than Bullion

The gold market is constantly growing and changing every day and there are many different people who study this market and will tell you many different things. There are differences of opinion in whether rare gold coins are better invested in than bullion, and each person will have a significant argument to back up their claims. However, there are many reasons that rare coins are actually a better investment than gold bullion. The first and most obvious is that rare gold coins will carry more value than just their weight in gold as bullion coins do.

Pre-1933 coins are the best investments because they hold the most value and they have what is called a numismatic value which above and beyond the price or value of gold itself. Rare coins can often be worth thousands and even hundreds of thousands of dollars, while bullion coins will generally only be worth slightly above the value of gold, depending on their weight and the current gold market price.

A bullion coin or gold bar will likely be one ounce or less in weight, making it worth less than $1,000 in the current market. However, a rare coin could easily go for upwards of $100,000 or more, and some even go for millions of dollars if they are super rare.

Rare coins are boosted by the undervalued market and the bull market that is perpetuating the increasing demand for gold bullion. Also, gold offers short term profits in the sense of bullion investing, while one or two rare coins held onto for a significant time will likely elicit a much better value as a long term investment. By investing in rare coins rather than bullion, you’ll get more bang for your buck because of the possibility of the numismatic value increasing significantly over that of the price of gold.

Rare coins need to be purchased quickly, before the markets rise again. Once the markets go up, rare coins will increase in value, both because of the price of gold in relation to the coin’s weight and because the coins are rare.

Buying rare coins is also a way to enjoy collecting and investing in gold. You can build a small collection and enjoy the pieces you collect for their beauty, learning about the history of the pieces as you go. However, when you invest in bullion, there is nothing interesting to be learned or any historical significance to your investment. This is why the rare coins market is a better investment than bullion, no matter what particular coins are being discussed.
